Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet -- the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality.
Watching this film is an experience, the long-awaited film came out on the 26th of April and I was lucky enough to go and see it very soon after it came out, as with typical Marvel films it was a real sell out in my local Cineworld. I really liked this film for many reasons although no film is perfect I'll get onto that later. I really liked how to film worked to converge characters, by mixing them up from Black Panther, Guardians of the galaxy, and Spiderman I really liked how they were all represented in this film and yes I do know they are all Marvel characters anyway!
I was also really impressed with the iconography and the use of cinematography within this film too, I feel that the film represented all of the characters really well by giving us an equal vision of the characters so the audience had a good idea of who was who and the different relationships that the different characters had with each other. I was also really impressed with the plot of the film, even though I left during the adverts and came back 10 seconds into the film (how typical) I still clearly understood the beginning of the film and throughout the film I clearly understood what was happening to the characters and why it was happening too, the plot was also fairly basic as well which left for a simplistic style to the storyline of the film which again I felt was impressive. Thanos, a titan type character, was on a journey through the universe to collect 6 infinity stones to 'save' the universe by killing off half of its people in order to bring prosperity and happiness to the other half. I feel that the way in which the film's plot was portrayed was great and that's why this film has been rated so highly by people who have watched it, the film also had an emotional effect too. I left the cinema seeing a few sad-eyed people, which personally for me I didn't relate to but the way in which this film was able to grab an emotional reaction from its viewers whilst still retaining the serious vibes and amazement of a Marvel film was nothing short of fantastic.
This film really was iconic and I loved how so many things were thrown into the mixer which would ruin any other film but for this one, it just really worked and it came out with a great masterpiece. Even for non-hardcore fans like myself. This film is long, I'm talking 2 and a half hours kinda long but I liked how this didn't feel like a chore. Yes maybe it was a little bit lengthy but there weren't any points where the audience were sitting watching the film where they could've missed a scene or gone off to the toilet simply because the film had so many exciting and breathtaking scenes which were all really great for the film overall. Witnessing the struggle of everything going wrong for the heroes of Earth was a nice breath of fresh air and this was left with a really big cliffhanger at the end of the film, I was slightly surprised though because even though half of Earth's population were killed off surely with a 50/50 chance of living not all of the heroes apart from Tony Stark would be killed randomly?
I also didn't quite get the reference after the credits of the film either but I do like how the film quite clearly laid out the carpet and said the sequel will be even better and will keep audiences anxious until May 2019 for sure! I also feel as if this is one of those films that is quite popular to watch and a 'must see' like Avatar where even people who weren't particularly interested went to go see the film simply because of the massive scale it brought through advertising and storyline. Like I said before the acting in this film was superb, Thanos’s story allows Saldana to shine, as she presents much more humanity and purpose than the Guardians movies have allowed her. I feel that this really is a great film and a must watch for audiences around the world, especially now memes are starting to be made about the film's storyline!! I would definitely watch the film sooner rather than later, especially to avoid spoilers which may lead to ruining the film - although there are some in my review. Whoops.
The film did have a few small issues I'd like to discuss however, the characters seemed to visit a lot of different locations and places and midway through the film I lost count and kind of just let them go there without really thinking about it; I think that even though I stated that a wide variety of audiences should see the film I don't necessarily know if all audiences would be able to enjoy it as much as a Marvel die-hard fans simply because of the references and events that happened within the film. I feel that some audiences may be slightly confused with the variety of different things that are going on too, with a battle in Wakanda going to the Avengers battle with Thanos on Titan to Thor's side quest to create a weapon powerful enough to destroy Thanos and maybe this was just a little bit too much for some audiences although personally, I thought the balance was great between these storylines. I was also slightly unsure by the ending of the film too, many of the characters died after Thanos essentially won, clearly they will find some way of coming back. Even though it was stated that "this time, there's no reverse" but they will come back otherwise Marvel would have lost all of their characters! I was just a little confused by the ending of the film in this respect, although it's nothing that some further research into the film didn't solve for me. :)
I would rate this film 8.5/10. It was great! This is a real masterpiece of a film and really needs to be watched to be appreciated by audiences, I loved how the film ended on a cliffhanger too and I really can't wait for May next year to go and watch the next installment in the series!!
Thanks for reading my review, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it.
