Under The Radar: Bulletproof

First of all, I'd just like to start by saying that I hope you all stay safe and that you are well. With the current conditions around the world, it is a very dangerous and risky place so please stay at home and keep yourself and others safe. This is a new mini-series of blog posts I am doing, to keep the film theme of the website going whilst cinemas have been closed down, I will be giving daily recommendations of various TV series and films available on-demand (NowTV/Netflix/Amazon etc.) for you to check out - some of which you may not have come across before. These are my recommendations, and won't follow my typical review theme as they focus more on a recommendation theme. Please make sure you get in contact on my social media pages if there are any specific shows you would like to see on here.

Detectives Bishop and Pike fight crime together on the streets of East London, sharing a similar moral code despite their drastically different backgrounds. Bishop grew up being passed around foster families, desperately looking for a father figure, while Pike's father was the first black police commissioner, whose expectations he is struggling to live up to. Their deviating approach to life has been shaping an almost unbreakable bond between the two men, and their friendship is finally put to the test.

Bulletproof is a 2 season series which is available on Sky One or accessible via NowTV, it follows the stories of two police officers, who have a great bond which helps to give them a really exciting, unique and fresh feeling which can be rarely found in TV shows. The series offers a lot which helps to make it exciting and accessible for a wide variety of audiences, for example, car chases, shootouts and intense, fast-paced action. What I like about the series though is how the two main characters (Bishop and Pike) are portrayed here, they feel like genuine and relatable characters, how they talk with a slight 'road' vocabulary is great, and gives them a really personal feeling. The show delves into their personal lives too, which gives a good idea of who they are both when they're working and who they are at home, and this helps to intensify the story because we know exactly what is at stake.

Throughout the whole story, there are enough twists and turns which help to keep Bulletproof feeling exciting and unpredictable, whilst also maintaining a good variety of intense and exciting action. I love how Bulletproof also delves far into the criminal underworld too, it isn't just a typical police chase type of show, but it looks into a wide variety of topics such as the dark web, the army, gangs, intense car chases and family ties relating to being in the police and going undercover. There's a lot that this series offers, whilst producing it in a fun and enjoyable vibe which helps to get the balance of intensity and enjoyment right - resulting in a really good series which is not to be missed. Be warned though, it definitely isn't a documentary type of series, it is quite unrealistic at times, but I don't think it's purpose is to provide a realistic feeling, but more to entertain and provide enjoyment for us and it does that well.

There are 2 series to this show, each one with 7 episodes and they can all be viewed on Sky One/Sky 2 or NowTV (if you have a subscription). A third series has been confirmed to be released around the Autumn season this year - so stay tuned for that. But I would recommend starting from series 1 to get to know the characters and their bonds with each other.

The characters and cast of the series can be found here:

  • Noel Clarke as Aaron Bishop.

  • Ashley Walters as Ronald Pike.

  • Lindsey Coulson as Sarah Tanner.

  • Jason Maza as Chris Munroe.

  • David Elliot as Tim Jones.

  • Lashana Lynch as Arjana Pike.

The trailer for season 2 (the latest season) is here to give you a taste of what the series is like and to see whether you think it your kinda series or not.

It's worth checking out, and in my opinion, definitely feels underrated as many people haven't heard of Bulletproof or even seen any of the episodes. It's a high intensity, fast-paced drama which actually feels genuinely interesting and gripping, and promises to bring some enjoyment to the long days in quarantine! ;) Seriously though, please guys make sure you look after yourself and stay safe, this virus is no joke and has killed a variety of different people of different ages and health conditions, so make sure you think carefully and act responsibly. If you'd like to make your own request then please check out my 'Social media' page where you can get in contact with me to suggest a series that goes 'under the radar' and it might just get posted! Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
